Laurens Consulting has been formed to deliver strategic business development services through the implementation of a broad range of practical advice. The Founding Partner of Laurens Consulting Mihaly K Varga is an experienced business development specialist with over 25 years of international experience in the professional services sector.
Mihaly has worked in senior regional strategic management positions at global and international business law firms, including at Clifford Chance, DLA Piper and Noerr.
He has also gained hands-on experience as a consultant and marketing director at a global accountancy firm. He also worked in a deal originator position at a CEE regional M&A advisory boutique.
Mihaly has a thorough understanding of the key challenges and opportunities facing law firms and professional services firms at large in a fast changing global market place, with a particular focus on the CEE markets including the DACH region through to the core markets of Central/ South East Europe.

Strategic Business Development plays a central role in designing and
implementing activities focused around Strategy and Planning; Clients and
Markets; Practices and Products; People and Talent development.

STRATEGY AND PLANNING
- Setting goals and objectives on the basis of in-depth internal
(organisational and operational) and external (market and legal sector)
analyses and offering practical tools to implement operational improvements - Advising on Firm-wide, regional, country level and practice group
level expansion including M&A and referral strategies

- Market positioning
- Competition and legal sector analyses, evaluating market trends
- Client relationship management advisory
- Designing and conducting client feedback reviews

Practices and products
Clarity about Strategy, Clients and Markets will help and determine the
directions for Practice Group development and will also influence the need
and extent for products and services.

Business Development has a role to play in building close operational relationships with Marketing, HR, Finance, Knowledge Management and IT and the COO in general, in order to be able to fulfil its mission.
This means that Business Development has by definition vested interests in understanding the scope of the activities of all internal services – i.e. those of the„support”, or „non fee-earning” departments. Business Development can become an integrating force by synthesizing functional management roles and creating coordinated communication channels within the law office.
Through our services, we aim to raise the awareness of the strategic importance of this Role for the whole of the law firm’s business and we aspire to help our Clients make it happen.
